Our nest

We now live in Yaoundé, the capital of Cameroon. We found a lovely house at the outskirts of the city, surrounded by some forests, cocoa plantations and lots of other nice(r) houses. It is a calm and beautiful area we like very much. It still has the flair of and african village and only very few white people. To the center it is only about 20 minutes drive so it's ideal for us. Jara found a nice crêche about 10 minutes from us where she can play with the other kids and enjoy her little slide.

LISA is born

We are very happy with the birth of our daugther LISA on 10 November 2008! Both, Griet and Lisa are very well. The delivery was (again) rather fast and uncomplicated. Friday both got out of the hospital and we could enjoy a lovely weekend together. Jara has been absolutely beautiful with her little sister LISA. We are glad she is coping so well and hope she will stay like this. LISA had 3.380g and 51 cm, but the most amazing fact are her long feet - we have no idea where our little Bigfoot has these from. So far she is happily breastfeeding and hopefully nicely developing. We are glad we decided to deliver in Belgium as Griet had a very nice midwife and lovely nurses.

Broederlijk Delen (BD) works with 15 local partners in Cameroon in the field of sustainable rural development. Our geographical focus is on three regions: The Extreme North, North West, and the Center-South. Due to its cultural and environmental diversity, the issues addressed by BD are very different in the three areas. The Extreme North is Savannah like and most important issues are the management of the scarce water resources and the promotion of appropriate agriculture techniques that take into account the fragility of the environment. In the North West the environment is mountainous and issues are mainly related to erosion protection and improved soil fertility. In the Center-South, we are speaking of the tropical forest belt. Here Slash-and Burn practices dominate with increasingly high impacts on the environment and the livelihoods of the poor. Through the introduction of crop rotation and improved soil management techniques, farmers are able to produce higher yields on the same field reducing the need for further clearcuts of the forests.
In all three regions the establishment of improved marketing approaches for agricultural products are supported to ensure farmers have fair and higher incomes.
Presently five development workers and three volunteers are working for our local partners in Cameroon.
